This shirt is one of the most fascinating acquisitions in the collection. This shirt was removed from Jake's trailer in Calgary during the filming of Brokeback Mountain. It was not seen on screen, but was likely intended for screen use. During the filming of Brokeback, Heath Ledger began spending most of his time with Michelle Williams, leaving Jake on his own for several weeks.
A young woman–listed in the film's off-screen credits and requiring complete anonymity–spent a lot of time with Gyllenhaal in the trailer and ultimately "borrowed" two souvenirs, including this shirt. What makes this shirt especially interesting is that it appears to have been professionally "teched" and mended by studio wardrobe. Also, the size tags were removed which is further evidence that this shirt was part of the production. The shirt has a 2" studio-mended pocket which makes it a likely candidate for the famous denim shirt that Ennis had in his closet in the final scenes of the film. Despite the fight scene on the mountain, it looks like the studio decided not to use this mended shirt. Whatever its origin or the studio intentions, Jake did wear this shirt on the Brokeback set and a colleague kept it as a souvenir of their time together.
The Leading Men Collection verified the evidence prior to acquiring these items and secured written verification from a fellow crew-mate. This soft, broken-in, Gap shirt is size L or XL and remains unlaundered. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing it has been worn by Jake on the Brokeback set. The Brokeback shirts worn by Mr. Gyllenhaal that made it to the final edit have sold for more than $100,000. This one, worn during production, can be yours for $599.
